aNDREW R. BASSO, PH.D.

Welcome!

I am a researcher affiliated with the Laurier Institute for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy (LISPOP). Broadly speaking, I am interested in processes of violence, rights and justice involving marginalized and Indigenous peoples across spatial and temporal boundaries.

My inter- and multi-disciplinary comparative historical and contemporary research is situated among political violence, international human rights, and transitional justice literatures. I am working concurrently on three research projects which include displacement atrocity crimes (violence), domicide and the right to home (rights), and Reconciliation in Canada (justice). All three multi-year, multi-method projects will result in book manuscripts and journal articles. Please refer to my Current Projects pages for detailed information on each.

I am currently scheduled to teach two sections of Politics Beyond Borders for the Department of Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University in Winter 2022. I previously taught seven courses in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary on comparative politics, human rights, and transitional justice. Please refer to my Teaching Pedagogy and Course Summaries pages for more information.

In addition to LISPOP, I am affiliated with the Centre for Research on Security Practices at Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to my current positions, I was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Transitional Justice and Post-Conflict Reconstruction, and the Department of Political Science at Western University. I completed my SSHRC-funded Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Calgary, an MA in Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, and an Honours BA in History and International Studies at the University of Waterloo.
